Did you know Erling Haaland comes from a footballing family? His father, Alfie Haaland, was a defender who also played for Man City. Alfie scored 18 goals during his time in the Premier League, but unfortunately, his career was cut short due to a terrible knee injury.
Injuries from tackles are quite common in football but this horrific tackle was carried out as an act of revenge by the notorious Roy Keane.
Keane and Alfie had a history dating back to a match in 1997 - where a collision between the two players left Keane laying on the ground in agony. Alfie thought Keane was faking an injury and yelled at him to get up. At that moment he did not realize the Man United captain had just ruptured his knee.
Keane never forgot this incident and waited four years to get his revenge. During a Manchester derby match at Old Trafford, Keane launched into Alfie boots first with a vicious knee-high tackle. Keane was given a red card and left many wondering if he did it intentionally. Alfied had to undergo several surgeries but they were unsuccessful. The Norwegian international was never able to play a full 90 mins again and was forced to retire early in 2003.
Years later Keane published his autobiography where he showed no signs of remorse and even confirmed the tackle was deliberate.
